About Us

United Methodist Women is the official Women’s Organization of the United Methodist Church.   We function under the guidelines of the Women’s Division, which is an agency of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.

In keeping with the guidelines of the Women’s Division, we work to build a supportive community among women; to be an advocate for the oppressed and dispossessed with special attention to the needs of women and children; and to engage in activities that foster growth in the Christian faith, mission education, and Christian social involvement throughout the organization.

The Central Texas Conference
The Central Texas Conference is made up of 7 districts:  Brownwookd, Mid Cities of Tarrant County, Fort Worth, Temple, Waco, Waxahachie and Weatherford.

Central Texas Representatives:

Women's Division Director
     - Edna Davis

Mission Program Initiatives
The total program of United Methodist Women  includes individual growth, spiritual enrichment, education for mission, social issues awareness, leadership development, schools and workshops, and financial support for mission programs and projects throughout the U.S. and around the world.

Spiritual & Theological Development
Through our Program Resources and Spiritual Growth officers we provide resources that support United Methodist Women members in their spiritual lives. Central Texas United Methodist Women are focusing on the Reading Program and the Spiritual Growth retreat event.

Leadership Development
The Women's Division provides and supports leadership development programs that give women of all racial, ethnic, and economic groups opportunity for realizing their full potential and full participation in the life of the church and society. Central Texas United Methodist Women are focusing on having a Summit for Teen, College Age and young women. District Visitations. Leadership Development for Hispanic Women.

Mission Education
Historically, the Women's Division has embraced an interlocking program of mission education, social action, spiritual growth and financial support for mission at home and around the world. The Division's Theology of Mission Statement names the task of women organized for mission: to be educated about God's mission (information), to be educated for God's mission (preparation), to be educated through involvement in God's mission (action and reflection), and to be educated by each other in God's mission (mutual learning). Central Texas United Methodist Women are focusing on having 100% of our units participating in the Mission Today Program.  We would like to have all church participation in our Mission Education event called the Cooperative School of Christian Missions.

During the next quadrennium, the Women's Division will focus on:

* Phase II of the Mission Today Program, an eight-year emphasis designed to mobilize local women to become more involved with United Methodist mission workers and projects.

Finance & Resource Development
Individual Mission Giving, when enhanced and multiplied by the giving of nearly one million members, enables a full and consistent response to human need. It connects and involves all members with mission programs and projects around the world.  Mission Giving makes it possible to respond to emerging needs and to explore new and experimental areas of mission.

Another goal is to increase membership in each district by 10% each year of the campaign. Emphasis was placed on recruiting teen women, college/university women, young women, newly-retired women, and women of various racial, cultural, and language groups.

Social Action & Advocacy
The Women's Division interprets the passage from Luke 4:18 as both a model and a mandate for Christian social action and advocacy: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour”. As we move into the 21st century, the Division will continue its advocacy work regarding child labour and exploitation, the environment, women's health, the banning of land mine's, economic literacy, the rights of children, media monitoring, human rights, world peace, and farm workers' rights, to name a few.

National Ministries
The primary focus of the Committee on National Ministries with Women, Children and Youth has been the nearly 100 National Mission Institutions. Through grants to these community centers, women's residences, schools and colleges, residential child care centers, health care and counseling centers, student leadership development, and community ministries, United Methodist Women are making a difference in the lives of women, children and entire families served by these institutions.  Central Texas United Methodist Women are focusing on United Community Centers located in Fort Worth, Texas.
